"Deposited for copyright February 11, 1863, but previously advertised in Harper's Weekly, VII, 1863, 96, as ready, February 7, 1863. Beadle & Co., Publishers, 118 William St. The first edition is of small size (Type I-HB), and contains 75 pages. A later edition, with plain yellow-orange covers (Type II-HB) was issued by Beadle and Adams from 98 William Street. The copyright date is partly effaced, a common trick in cheap book publication to avoid indicating the age of the issue. The copyright was apparently not renewed."--Johannsen, A.
